Updated: October 10, 2026 (America/Detroit)

Current counts

  • Manuscript — 937 words; 4 estimated pages.
  • Chapter outline and breakdowns — 2,525 words; 11 estimated pages.
  • Author notes — 4,135 words; 17 estimated pages.
  • Combined outline and author notes — 6,660 words; 27 estimated pages.

Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, and 10 contain working manuscript additions supplied with Add:. Chapter 7 is still blank. The additions remain provisional pending Joe's Complete: command. Manuscript counts include saved working text and its headings.

Planning counts cover each complete file, including its headings, overview, descriptions, and drafting guidance. The README and this progress file are excluded from the totals.

Counting method

  • Count readable text, excluding Markdown formatting, list numbering, and link destinations.
  • Treat words containing an internal apostrophe or hyphen as one word.
  • Keep manuscript, planning, and eventual course counts separate.
  • Estimate pages by dividing words by 250 and rounding up to a whole page. Zero words equals zero pages.
  • Estimate the combined planning pages from the combined word count. Independently rounded file estimates may not add to that combined estimate.
  • Page counts remain estimates until a manuscript layout is chosen and rendered.

Reporting going forward

Include manuscript words and estimated pages in every book progress report. When a chapter is drafted or revised, include its individual counts as well. When the outline or notes change, refresh their planning counts here and report those separately.
